Do you wish there was a way to make your child’s dental appointments better and more successful? If so, our Cedar Pointe Family Dentistry team is happy to grant your wish! There are a few things you can try to help your child feel more comfortable and content in the dental chair; those things are:

Bring your child in at the right time
If your child is tired or cranky, the dental appointment won’t go as well as you’d hoped, which is why we ask that you do not bring your child in during their naptime. We also ask that you avoid bringing them in after their nap if they tend to be cranky when they wake up. For older children, it’s best to avoid bringing them in after school or camp if they don’t seem to have the energy.

Set an example
Try visiting with the dentist first. Let him examine your smile to show your child that it’s not as big of a deal as most people say it is. If you are relaxed and confident in the dental chair, your child will be as well.

Feed your child prior to the appointment
Typically, a hungry patient is not a happy patient, so please bring your child into our office with a full stomach. If your child has the tendency to gag during their appointment, please remember to feed them lightly on the off chance that they throw up.

Leave your anxiety at the door
If you feel anxious at the dental office, your child will most likely feel it as well, so it’s best to leave your anxiety at the door. We also ask that you keep your cool if your child does not cooperate. If you fight with your child, it will only make matters worse.

Your dentist, Dr. Ryan H. Wilson, and our dental team want your child to have a positive experience at our office, which is why we are happy to provide these tips.
